Introduction
Welcome to Jonathan Jordan's Teaching Portfolio
During my undergraduate studies, I realized my passion was for teaching. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a degree in Biology, I enrolled in the MAT program at National Louis University and did my student teaching at York High School in Elmhurst, IL.
Early in my teaching career I decided to pursue sales and management, but the desire to educate never subsided. Being an educator is truly my passion. I was born and raised near O’Hare Airport, and I have had a unique opportunity to experience the vast racial, ethnic and socio-economic diversities that our metropolitan region affords us.
I feel fortunate that I am able to champion, first hand, the notion that diversity enriches learning. I create a learning environment that provides the safety and respect for students to “go out on a limb,” leave their comfort zones and truly grow. It is not uncommon for my students to confide in me that they have never tried so hard, or have never had an educator believe in them the way I do.
Trauma Informed Care and Restorative Justice practices are central in my classroom, on teams I’ve managed, and in my life. Many of my students go on to pursue Science because, for the first time, they have the confidence to succeed in Science. I pride myself on my classroom management and ability to engage students in their learning and success by being active participants whether we are in whole group, working on a lab, a project or critical thinking activity, as some examples.
I encourage my students to utilize their personal views and experiences to enhance their learning and the learning of those around them. I have a firm command of a number of sciences, specializing in Biology and Environmental Biology with a penchant for teaching Earth Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, and Physics. Though a Science Teacher by training, I’ve taught Social Studies and Reading at the Middle School level and recently provided direct instruction in all high school subjects for students pursuing their High School Diploma or GED.
Furthermore, I am always eager to learn new educational roles. I have come to realize that I do nothing better than educate and inspire my students. Please contact me with information regarding this opportunity and any other opportunity for which you feel I am qualified.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
